My Persnickety Weight Loss Plan, Day 78!

Last night, we went to a retirement party for a former coworker of Jackie’s. This guy was finally retiring after 45 years of employment! Good for him!
I only knew a few of the guests. So I mostly sat while Jackie socialized or I tried to make small talk with strangers.
When we sat down for dinner, Jackie sat to my left and a guy I only knew briefly sat to my right. During dinner, I tried to keep a somewhat steady flow of conversation with TOM (not his real name. Although it wouldn’t matter here… But what is his real name??? Wow! Getting old! I can’t think of it, so Tom is good. Sorry that I digressed.).
While eating dinner, which was pretty tasty. I noticed Tom only had a small serving of food, compared to my hefty plate. I asked him about that.
He said that he was on a low carb diet. Good for you, I replied.
Then dessert came around. Cheesecake with strawberry topping, one of my favorites. So I asked Tom again about not eating desserts. He said that he wasn’t too much of a sweets person (I wished that I could be like that), but also one of the guests at the party hadn’t recognized him because he is heavier than when this person saw him last, about thirty years ago.
Give me a break!
Thirty years ago, we were all pencil thin!
Our metabolism was strong and working overtime!
We worked, played, danced, did sports! We had an active lifestyle.
I don’t condone what that person told Tom. I think that was wrong (David! That was my dinner guest’s name! I had stop thinking about it!) but it is something that I think I will try to keep in the back of my mind.
Why have I stopped playing and dancing and being involved in sports?
Why are my newly found activities achievable in a sitting position?
I don’t want to weigh what I weighed thirty years ago, not at my age.
But I do want to be healthier and more active.
So in one of the tag lines of our FLOTUS, “Let’s Move!”
